xquery '//book/title' library.xml

# Count elements
xquery 'count(//item)' catalog.xml

# Read from a query file
xquery -f transform.xq input.xml

# Query a directory of XML files
xquery 'collection()//product[price > 50]' ./data/

# JSON output
xquery -o json 'map { "count": count(//item) }' data.xml

# Read from stdin
cat data.xml | xquery '//item/@name'

# Show execution plan
xquery --plan 'for $x in 1 to 10 return $x * $x'

# Show timing breakdown
xquery --timing '//item' large-catalog.xml

Features

  • XQuery 3.1/4.0 — FLWOR, maps/arrays, higher-order functions, string constructors
  • Multiple output methods — adaptive, XML, text, JSON
  • Context item — input XML is available as . (standard XQuery)
  • Multiple sources — files, directories, URLs, stdin

No XQuery engine changes. Carries PhoenixmlDb.Xslt 1.6.11 into the `xquery` tool, and makes
`--version` say what it carries.

### `xquery --version` reports the engines it bundles

   xquery 1.6.11 (PhoenixmlDb XQuery/XPath 4.0)
     PhoenixmlDb.XQuery 1.6.11
     PhoenixmlDb.Xslt 1.6.11
     PhoenixmlDb.Core 1.6.7

This tool provides `fn:transform` by embedding `PhoenixmlDb.Xslt`, and until 1.6.10 that
reference sat at **1.6.6** — so `xquery 1.6.9` carried an engine four releases old and nothing
on screen said so. Martin Honnen had to infer it from a repro that kept failing against a
version that supposedly contained the fix. A version identifies the package, not what it
carries; for a tool that bundles engines, it has to report both.

### Via Xslt 1.6.11

`xsl:attribute` content no longer leaks into the caller's sequence (Martin Honnen's XTTE0505 on
XSpec's `format-xspec-report.xsl`), package locations can be declared without another vendor's
file format, and typed template bodies no longer double-count their own text.

   XQuery.Tests 1506 passed, 0 failed — unchanged; this is a dependency bump
