SelectPdf Native Engines

SelectPdf

This package contains the platform-specific native engines used by the managed SelectPdf.Universal and SelectPdf.HtmlToPdf.Universal libraries:

  • the Chromium engine for HTML to PDF and HTML to image, with its in-process host library, and
  • the PDF tool for PDF to text and PDF to image (used by SelectPdf.Universal).

The files are deployed next to your application automatically (contentFiles, copyToOutput), including by dotnet publish.

Installation

Install the managed library plus the native package that matches your runtime:

dotnet add package SelectPdf.Universal # or SelectPdf.HtmlToPdf.Universal
dotnet add package SelectPdf.Universal.Native.<rid> # win-x64 | win-x86 | linux-x64 | linux-arm64 | osx-arm64
Package Runtime
SelectPdf.Universal.Native.win-x64 Windows, 64-bit process
SelectPdf.Universal.Native.win-x86 Windows, 32-bit process
SelectPdf.Universal.Native.linux-x64 Linux x64, glibc 2.30+
SelectPdf.Universal.Native.linux-arm64 Linux ARM64, glibc 2.30+
SelectPdf.Universal.Native.osx-arm64 macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon

The managed library is AnyCPU; this package is architecture-specific. The Chromium engine runs inside your application when the package matches the architecture of your application's process; with a package of another architecture (for example a 32-bit process with win-x64) conversions run in a separate engine process automatically. To run every conversion in its own engine process, set GlobalProperties.ChromiumEngineHostMode = ChromiumEngineHostMode.OutOfProcess. Install more than one package for side-by-side multi-RID deployments (runtimes/<rid>/native).

Linux notes

The Linux engines bundle the full Chromium shared-library closure, so HTML to PDF runs on a minimal distribution or container image without extra apt-get packages, with no GPU and no --shm-size tuning. The only host requirements are glibc 2.30 or newer (Debian 11+, Ubuntu 20.04+, RHEL 9+) and the .NET runtime. Alpine/musl is not supported. The engines restore their executable bit themselves when a deployment arrives without it. The package also makes the engine files executable for every user when the application is built or published on Linux, so a container or platform that runs it as a non-root user needs no chmod. For text in every language on a host without fonts, add SelectPdf.Universal.Fonts.

macOS notes

The macOS engine requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or newer on Apple Silicon. There is no Intel (osx-x64) package: Apple stopped selling Intel Macs in 2023, and an x64 .NET application under Rosetta converts with the arm64 engine, in a separate engine process. The binaries are signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.

Windows notes

The Windows engines are signed by Outside Software SRL and need no Visual C++ redistributable. In Windows containers use Windows Server Core with the core Windows fonts installed (Nano Server is not supported).
