RetroSharp.Tool

retrosharp compiles C#-like programs and a zero-cost 2D SDK into ROMs for the Game Boy, the NES, the Master System and the Game Gear. The Master System and Game Gear targets are still in development and support a subset of the SDK; unsupported calls fail with a clear diagnostic.

Requirement

The .NET 10 SDK must be installed: dotnet --list-sdks has to list a 10.0 version. Without it, dotnet tool install fails with Settings file 'DotnetToolSettings.xml' was not found in the package, because the tool targets .NET 10 only.

Install

dotnet tool install --global RetroSharp.Tool

Start

retrosharp --help

An AI agent should start with retrosharp guide. All the documentation travels with the tool and needs no repository or website: retrosharp guide lists the topics and retrosharp guide <topic> prints one.

Build a first game

retrosharp templates create minimal --name MyGame --output MyGame
retrosharp MyGame/game.retrosharp.json

The ROMs are written to the project's bin folder.

# Changelog 0.0.1254

## Changes since v0.0.1246

- Tilemap.Set and Fill with a 16x16 or 32x32 tileset put the whole tile on the tileset's grid (#2373) (#2394) (`77d778ea`)
- SMS/GG: setup cells set after a scene's load show over its map, as on GB and NES (#2375) (#2393) (`86321d16`)
- A setup call outside the setup fails the build naming the call, on every target (#2380) (#2392) (`d67a4607`)
- A wrong option or a missing option value ends in one line that says what to write, never in a stack trace (#2384) (#2390) (`c73ed5a3`)
- byte, sbyte, ushort and short work as u8, i8, u16 and i16 wherever a type is written (#2388) (#2389) (`a29480a4`)
- The first picture of a followed scene is already on its target (#2387) (`e6d3c939`)
- retrosharp debug install registers the debugging MCP servers, and the guide asks for them before the first code (#2376) (#2386) (`fd89d8a8`)
- Tilemap.Set with a run-time argument in Start writes its cell at run time, in source order (#2369) (#2385) (`87b95335`)
