Microsoft.AgentGovernance — .NET package

Runtime security governance for autonomous AI agents. Policy enforcement, execution rings, circuit breakers, prompt injection detection, SLO tracking, saga orchestration, rate limiting, zero-trust identity, OpenTelemetry metrics, and tamper-proof audit logging — all in a single .NET 8.0 package.

Install

Run dotnet add package from the directory that contains your .csproj. If you're in another folder, pass the project path explicitly:

In Visual Studio Package Manager Console, use Install-Package and make sure the correct app is selected in the Default project dropdown. Typing a bare package name at the prompt fails because PowerShell treats it as a command.

Model Context Protocol Integration

Microsoft.AgentGovernance.Extensions.ModelContextProtocol adds one-call governance to IMcpServerBuilder, including policy evaluation, MCP tool-definition scanning, fallback tool-call governance, and response sanitization.

MCP governance now requires an authenticated agent identity by default. DefaultAgentId is only used when you explicitly opt into anonymous fallback:

If you previously relied on DefaultAgentId as an implicit fallback, set RequireAuthenticatedAgentId = false during migration. Request-scoped context.Items["agent_id"] values are no longer trusted for governance identity.

WithGovernance(...) wraps the final MCP ToolCollection, so it works with tools registered before or after the governance extension is added.

Note: the .NET 8 package now supports verification-only public-key flows through native asymmetric ECDSA P-256 identities. It still differs from the other SDKs, which use native Ed25519, so cross-language key material is not interchangeable yet.

OS-inspired privilege rings (Ring 0–3) that assign agents different capability levels based on trust scores. Higher trust → higher privilege → more capabilities:
