TjD.MemoryMappedFiles

The framework implementation of Memory Mapped Files stops short at quite a low level. This implementation takes it a step further by acting as a MemoryPool<T>, providing a mechanism to get access to the file as Memory<T> and Span<T>.

Cross-Platform

We retain all cross-platform capabilities that the framework implementation has, as we still make use of it internally. Currently considering reimplementing parts of System.IO.MemoryMappedFiles to take better advantage of platform features and to provide a better implementation for Linux as the framework version is a little lacking.

Usage

It's as simple as calling the static method on MemoryMappedFileManager to get started:

string path = @"/var/mmf/fileToMap.bin";

MemoryMappedFileManager<byte> mmfManager
    = MemoryMappedFileManager<byte>.OpenOrCreate(path, 1024 * 1024);

Because it's a MemoryPool<byte>, you can pass it to other methods that might need one:

PipeOptions pipeOptions = new PipeOptions
    (
        pool: mmfManager
    );

Pipe pipe = new Pipe(pipeOptions);
