Suoranta.PhysicalUnits

Summary

Provides the lightweight PhysicalQuantity struct which is a double floating point number with SI unit attached to it and supporting arithmetic operations with compatible values (other quantities and bare numbers). The struct size is 16 bytes, meaning that it is stored always in the stack. PhysicalQuantity implements IFormattable interface (see the API documentation for details).

The current release is beta/experimental.

Platforms

.NET Standard 2.0

Usage Example

var mass = new PhysicalQuantity(5D, SIBaseUnit.Kilogram);   // mass of 5 kg
var force = Constants.StandardGravity * mass; // multiply by acceleration of free fall to get the force
Console.WriteLine($"The force required to lift an object of {mass} is approximately: {force}");
var height = new PhysicalQuantity(10D, SIBaseUnit.Meter);
var time = new PhysicalQuantity(25D, SIBaseUnit.Second);
var power = force * height / time; // force times distance is work; work per time is power
Console.WriteLine($"The power when lifting the object to the height of {height} in {time}: {power}");

outputs

The force required to lift an object of 5 kg is approximately: 49.03325 N
The power when lifting the object to the height of 10 m in 25 s: 19.6133 W
