MLoop.Search

The trainer search behind MLoop: which trainers to try, with which settings, judged on which rows. It works on ML.NET and knows nothing of MLoop's projects, files or command line — a host hands it data with each column's role and receives the trials it ran.

Most users want the mloop CLI (dotnet tool install -g mloop) or MLoop.Core, which call this package for you. It is versioned with them.

What is here

ColumnRoles — the role of every column a search may read: numeric, categorical, text or ignored, and the label.
TrialResult and ITrialSink — one trial's outcome, and where a search reports it.
IMetricPolicy — the metric a search ranks trials by and which way is better.
MLoop.Search.Tuning — the hyperparameter tuner: SearchSpace / SearchDimension (a trainer's options as a unit cube, ranges and log scales), CostFrugalTuner (CFO with the FLOW2 local search, starting from cheap settings and growing them) and EciSchemaProposer (which trainer to try next, by estimated cost for improvement). Seeded, a search proposes the same settings in the same order.
CandidateCatalog and Featurizer — the trainers a search tries per task with their search spaces, and the feature vector they train on.
FoldPlan and Validator — stratified, seeded folds (a single holdout on large data) and a trial's score as the mean over them.
TrialRunner — the search: schema by ECI, settings by the tuner, score by the validator, the best refit on the whole partition. The first trial always finishes; a failed trial is recorded and the search goes on.
